The truth is, as a navigator, I'm primarily interested in direction. My appetite works overtime when I'm in the wilderness, so naturally my mind tends to go more in the direction of cheeseburgers than in anything to do with the long-ago antics of mythological characters. While I can easily see a Big DipperĀ in that star grouping, when I look at Cassiopeia, all I see is a huge M-shape, which reminds me of that famous fast-food place well known for selling billions of hamburgers. That may be so, but it would take quite an imagination to come up with that idea out of these five stars. This constellation is said to represent a beautiful, reclining woman. Like Polaris, the constellation Cassiopeia is a northern star grouping, circumpolar above latitude 35 degrees North. Cassiopeia was the wife of Cepheus and mother of Andromeda. In 1572, a supernova called Tychos Star, or SN 1572, was seen in Cassiopeia by many people. It has two very bright stars called Cas and V509 Cas. It was named after a queen in Greek mythology called Cassiopeia. It looks like a letter W or M, with five bright stars that make the W or the M shape.
